It’s not like me to go more than 10 days without writing a blog but now that I am back in Georgia after the Christmas break I sit back and wonder what can I write about that hasn’t already been summed up in my last blog. Well I know some of you are looking at the title of this blog expecting for me to spill some extreme secret but DONT GET TOO EXCITED.

It was New Years day and Maggie and I decided to spend our time in Downtown Chicago. So we got on the Metra train for an hour then walked 20 minutes to Millenium Park so I could go ice skating for the first time. But due to time constraints we ended up walking around downtown Chicago for about 5 hours, mind you it is called the windy city and it wasn’t as cold as previous days but it was still cold enough to numb my legs and cheeks (the only parts of me not covered up by warm fur and feathers).

I hadn’t been in Chicago for two years but I was born and raised in Chicago for 18 years. I wasn’t that excited to walk around well because I have done it so many times, but downtown Chicago in the winter may be cold but it is absolutely breathtaking. Between the lights, the street musicians, and if its warm enough the horse and carriages, it truly is a winter wonderland. But with all that said I learned to hate the city because of the past I lived.

Oddly enough somewhere on the corner of State Street and Madison as I listened to the bucket drummers and enjoyed the lights gleaming from the Chicago Theater, my heart once again grew fond of the city I vowed I would never return to.

The pain of my past didn’t matter anymore all that mattered was the sweet memories that flashed through my mind and my heart as I walked around and took in the beauty of it all. Now this is not to say that I plan on moving back to Chicago because that I am sure will not happen nor will I plan to visit again anytime soon. But I did realize that even though my past holds painful memories it also holds lots of LOVE and BEAUTY, which is much more powerful than any painful past.

  1. Hey – praise the Lord for His redeeming work. Without you knowing it He has brought you to a place where you can set your mind on the good memories rather than the bad ones. He is so good!

Marcia and I are huge fans of Chicago – lived there for a lot of the time you did! You are right – downtown is breathtaking in the winter. It’s pretty cool in the summer too.

Oh well, thanks for the great story and the great pics!

  2. Hi Rosee,

Happy New year to you!!! Its really a good time to hear from you again. Am sure you had a great holiday? Nice to hear your leisure in Chicago city and the icy corners. The past is a ‘witch hunt’ when you decide to reflect on them, as a psychologist, i advice you take a big laughter when you remember somethings next time and say -Jesus is Lord!
Rosee, 2009 shall be to you a year of restoration and harvest in Jesus name….Amen!

    Cheers !
