My Birthday
Okay so January 28, 2009 I turned 22 years old and I know I should be a bit more enthuastic about my birthday but somewhere between about 13 years old and 21 my excitement for my birthday has slowly dwindled.
Don’t get me wrong, I am so grateful to be alive another year and praise God for the life he has blessed me with, but to me it is just another day. I still have to work, I still have to take care of my responsibilities, and well life doesn’t stop. I could go into this whole thing about how I believe that the world has turned birthdays into the one day where you have an excuse to show your love for someone when the other 364 days of the year are not that imperative to show your love and appreciation, but please don’t get me started.
I expressed to some of my roomates how I didn’t want a party, I didn’t want streamers or candles or a gift that would gather dust in my closet. I have been haggling the ComLifers for months now to have a slumber party in the living room and watch my favorite movie “The Last of the Mohicans”, but they didn’t seem very enthusiastic about the whole idea. But I walked in from my Wednesday night ministry to see four mattresses on the living room floor, candles lit eerywhere, and my favorite movie sitting next to my gift of yoga pants and socks (I complain about how our washing machine eats my socks and well a dancer can never have enough yoga pants). During the movie we had peanut butter and chocolate chip pie (Teresa’s speciality) and butter pecan ice cream, my favorite.
It was the perfect ending to a day filled with an overwelming headache (which I have gotten on my birthday for the last 3 years), my mother saying Happy Birthday to me about 6 times, family members making the call, and a wish not answered (ask me later).
Thanks Family for making my night and it was awesome to wake up and see that you all stuck by my side the whole night, I Love You ALL!!!
